GROUP COLLAGE
"RoaR"
2015
Children ages 7-10 in Redeemer Afterschool Program
The 5-6 children who participated in this collage project used colored pencils, markers, found objects and magazine clippings to create a hurricane of textures. I added paint after all the coloring and glueing was complete.
This piece is full of favorite moments of playful visual storytelling: for example, the child who collaged a picture of a tree, asked me if he could cut it down, then drew a line across the trunk and wrote "timber."

"Jepthah's Daughter"
2016
A collaboration with Luther Seminary 's Dr. Cameron Howard and student organizer Annie Langseth for Sexual Violence awareness week. Participants read and discussed the story of patriarchal violence against Jepthah's unnamed daughter in Judges 11-12. I led them in an art exercise of exploring the story through shape and color using torn paper. Each participant made a collage like these, and all were completely different. After the pieces were complete we had another conversation using the images as our new starting point.

"Stations of the Cross: Betrayal"
2014
These collages were made with members of Redeemer's adult Bible study. We read different stories from the Passion narrative (the stories of Jesus' arrest, condemnation and execution) and participants worked in groups of 3 or 4 to create visual representations of the story.
